Carbon is the sixth most common element in the universe and an integral building block in the chemistry of life. But in the Belgian city of Genk, it is more than just the foundation of organic science: it’s a striking and sophisticated design hotel wholly dedicated to rejuvenation and relaxation.

One of the most important industrial cities in Flanders, Genk was the heart of the 19th-century coal-mining industry in the province of Limburg. The Carbon Hotel is located in the centre of this revitalizing urban hub – voted the friendliest city in Europe by the SEA Tourist Commission – and its design embraces Genk’s industrial history: a grey fa?ade evokes the nearby mining fields, and the use of carbon-based building materials references the coal itself, a fossil fuel composed primarily of carbon. The Carbon Genk's 60 rooms are open and spacious, and each comes equipped with iPod, television, DVD player and mini-bar. All are located at the back of the hotel, meaning that each provides a stunning view of Hotel Carbon’s 600-square-metre, first-floor terrace garden, a calm sanctuary in the middle of a bustling city. On the hotel’s top floor sits a vast, 608-square-metre spa and healing centre, where health club, sauna, hammam, chromotherapy, relaxation treatments, massage, cocoon corners, herbal baths, tai chi and chakra are available to guests, as is a 204-square-metre terrace with southern exposure. A coffee bar, restaurant, wine bar and three meeting rooms can also be counted amongst the hotel’s many facilities.

Carbon Hotel is located in the city centre of Genk, opposite the main railway station. The hotel is approximately 80Km from Brussels airport and 35Km from the airport of Maastricht.
